Some are rescued animals, that would not be able to survive on their own in their natural habitat. Some examples of rescued animals at the Aquarium include several of our California sea lions, southern sea otters Tank the green sea turtle and the manta ray, Nandi.
Some animals come to Georgia Aquarium from aquaculture facilities — where aquatic animals are bred and reared for places like the Aquarium. Other species of fish and other animals are cultured elsewhere before coming to the aquarium.
Some animals are carefully collected by the animal experts at Georgia Aquarium so that they can serve as ambassadors for their species in one of our many exhibits. These animals help teach people about their species, the environments they live in and the dangers they face, so that we can take action to help protect them. Aquarium size can be measured two ways. If you measure the facility by square footage, Georgia Aquarium is more than , square feet.

With more than two million guests visiting our facility each year, and thousands of aquatic animals living in 10 million gallons of water behind acrylic, we cannot put ourselves at risk of either an intentional or accidental discharge of a weapon within our facility.
Signage has been placed on our property stating that firearms are not permitted. For your convenience, you can pay for parking in advance online. You will need to print and bring your pre-paid parking ticket with you in order to enter the parking deck.

Firstly, our food broker evaluates all seafood vendors before we conduct business with them to ensure that they use sustainable methods to harvest seafood for both animal and human consumption.
Secondly, we have developed our Seafood Savvy program to educate our guests to make informed seafood choices. Farms that occur along the coast in many tropical nations have adverse impacts on the environment, including the destruction of mangrove forests, salt marshes and flatlands.
Many farms also release their untreated wastewater into the coastal environment, leading to pollution and disease. The number of restaurants that serve sustainable seafood is growing all the time. Never hesitate to ask, make a call or do some internet research before you dine out. As for seafood markets, Whole Foods is committed to stocking only sustainable seafood.
On April 4, , supermarkets were required to label unprocessed seafood with information regarding its location of origin and whether is it farm-raised or wild caught. If such information is not available in a store or on a restaurant menu, we recommend that you ask the following questions:. Ask questions at the market or at restaurants. Encourage your favorite restaurant or market to only supply sustainable seafood.
Eat for the future. Eat sustainably. Our choices drive the seafood industry. Your purchasing power makes a difference. Your support of fisheries and farms that are better for the environment helps build a healthy future for the ocean.
There are several reasons! Seafood is a primary food source for people all over the world. Fish is a good source of omega 3 fatty acids, an important part of a healthy diet. Fisheries provide commercial productivity, and directly or indirectly affect 40, jobs in Georgia alone. Destructive fishing methods harm the global aquatic environment and contribute to a decline in our overall quality of life.
This means that the seafood comes from sources, either fished or farmed, that are able to maintain or increase production in the long term without negatively impacting the affected ecosystems. Seafood Savvy is a program designed to empower consumers to know the right seafood to buy and why. Your choices matter, and simple actions can make a big difference. Some types of fish farming, or aquaculture, have more impact on the environment than others.
This depends, in part, on what type of fish is being farmed, what type of farming method is being used and where the farm is located. Security is your very first stop upon arrival at Georgia Aquarium. Keep in mind that NO guns, knives or lighters are allowed inside Georgia Aquarium. Yes, to comply with our COVID protocols and social distancing, only one family is allowed in the sensory room at a time. Guests looking to utilize the sensory room must check in with a staff member in order to gain access into the room.
Staff members are located at the Animal Interaction Desk or information desk outside the 4D theater which are both located beside the sensory room. One of the major barriers for these individuals is sensitivity to over stimulation and noise, which is an enormous part of the environment in a venue. Sensory rooms help create a safe and calming environment for these individuals so they can take a break from the event, decompress, and join the event again. When individuals or families with sensory needs visit a popular venue, things like loud noises, inconsistent lighting or certain smells can be overwhelming and even physically painful.
We have built a sensory room so those with sensory needs can decompress while visiting and rejoin the excitement when they feel ready. Sensory rooms, from the size, color of the walls, to the elements in the room are all carefully planned by the KultureCity sensory team led by physicians, and board-certified therapists. Some items included in the room are:. Yes, you can use your credit card for transactions on our website.
